Languages and Celebrations

Bonjour Parents!

We have been busy working away on our inquiry of how we are unique and how we belong.

Our focus has been on learning about different languages that we speak and some unique celebrations around the world.

Here is a song that the students have learned about how to say hello in different languages:

Be sure to ask your child to share some different ways to say hello! :) Some examples that they may share are: Bonjour, Aloha, Namaste, Konichiwa, Guten-Tag, Ciao, Shalom, Buenos Dias, and more!

The students shared with each other the languages that they speak at home and wrote the word "hello" in their own language inside a speech bubble. They then cut out their speech bubble and glued it into their autobiography, along with a photograph of themselves and the sentence I speak _________.  Here is a sample of our work:

We also started learning about different celebrations! The students became investigators and explored photographs and looked for clues that explained what celebration was being shown in the picture and why. They worked in a group to draw pictures of what stood out to them!

Here are some photographs of the students hard at work:

Thank you to the parents who completed the homework that was sent home on Tuesday about discussing a celebration or tradition that you have in your family or culture. The students will be sharing their information with their peers on Monday!

Please remember there is no school for all students next Friday December 8!

Thank you!!

Ms. Shustack and Ms. G
