Letters and Art!

Hello Parents!

We have started our alphabet inquiry and are on our way to becoming letter masters!

We begin each day by choosing objects from our MYSTERY BAG to help us figure out what the mystery letter of the day is! (Thank you so much to the families that helped collect objects over the winter break!)

After we figure out the mystery letter, we sing songs with actions to help us recognize the letter and teach us the sound. We especially love the Jolly Phonics and Have Fun Teaching songs! Please feel free to listen to these songs and practice at home. All of the songs can be found on youtube. Here is an example of the letter S song:

We then brainstorm as a class all of the objects we can think of that begin with that letter.

Finally, the students have a chance to practice printing the uppercase and lowercase letter in their journal and draw three pictures that begin with that letter! So far, we have learned the following letters and sounds: S, A, T, H, P!

We are also working with Mrs. F, our ARTIST IN RESIDENCE this year! The students have become artists and painted their own canvas! We will be using these canvases to create our classroom alphabet wall. We can't wait for you to see our final masterpieces in a few months!

Thank you to the parents that joined us for Parent Teacher Conferences this week! It was lovely to meet all of you and we hope you enjoyed looking at our AUTOBIOGRAPHIES!
